R Is for Romeo is the eleventh episode of Season 6 of Homeland. It aired on April 2, 2017.

Synopsis[]

Carrie Mathison is about to testify when she learns that Franny has fallen ill. Elizabeth Keane takes on Dar Adal and Peter Quinn continues on his trail. Meanwhile, Saul Berenson makes arrangements for his next move.

Episode guide[]

Carrie wants to know why Quinn brought her in while the man in the house across the street turns off the light. Quinn then dismantles his gun and explains to Carrie that the man has Sekou's van in his garage, which is proof of the bomb planting. Carrie wants to take this evidence to the US Attorney General, but Quinn insists on killing the man herself. He accuses Carrie of having made him what he is today by waking him up while in the coma despite the high risk in Berlin. So, in his eyes, she owes him a favor. Carrie tries to explain, but Quinn makes it clear to her how much she destroyed his life.

As people take to the streets to protest Keane, she holds a press conference to defend her son and urges the media to verify her facts before publishing them. Finally, a reporter asks if she plans to leave office. Keane then clarifies that she was properly elected and that nothing has changed that she will be the next President of America. She then ends the press conference, during which she also learned from a reporter that the man who was scheduled to be her defense secretary plans to withdraw his nomination due to the events. After the conference, Saul visits Keane to tell her that he has more details about the release of the video about her son.

As a group of people leave the house across the street, Quinn tries to sneak off to follow them, but Carrie catches him. While she tries to stop him, she agrees with him about what is happening in the Berlin hospital, but at the same time makes it clear to him that she was never only concerned with her work, but also with him. Still, Quinn wants to leave, which Carrie tearfully allows.

Dar Adal and O'Keefe confront Max about filming a video of them. Max denies it. Adal then tries to get Max to confess, but Max claims neither to know who Adal is nor to have been hired by Carrie to take the job at the agency. Meanwhile, Keane has found out where Adal is currently staying and wants to have the agency's finances checked and whether it is illegal propaganda. At that moment, O'Keefe calls to confess that he released the video of her son. At the same time, he invites Keane to his television show to discuss the subject with her. When Keane then asks Saul for his opinion, he makes it clear that they cannot afford to remain in the background. He wants Keane to face O'Keefe and the public.

Carrie breaks into the house next door. In the garage she actually finds the van, which also contains a photo of Sekou and his family. When she then looks around in an office room, she is attacked by the resident. She is unable to defend herself against him, but Quinn rushes to her aid. It shoots the man in the leg and then smashes his skull in with the butt of his gun.

Max is visited by a colleague who brings him something to eat. Max asks him for help and in fact his colleague left a card on the food tray with which Max can open the door of the room. He leaves the building quickly, but is kidnapped by two men in the underground car park.

Carrie has turned on George Pallis, who wants to take a look at the van and intends to frame Quinn's murder as self-defense at the forthcoming trial, giving him immunity. Quinn has little to say and ends up telling Carrie about Astrid's death. He explains that he blames himself for her death since he distrusted her and took the ammo out of her gun. Carrie tries to make him understand that he doesn't need to blame himself and apologizes again for what she did to him in Berlin. However, Quinn replies that he has always been who he is now.

Keane arrives at O'Keefe's studio. Meanwhile, Max was taken to Adal. He asks him about Quinn and explains that he has been very present on the internet lately. After a moment's hesitation, Max replies that this behavior is inconsistent with Quinn, which is why he suspects someone has assumed his identity. Adal already knows that Max's boss is responsible for this, so he wants Max to hack into his computer. The latter replies that they are unable to do so, but that they can get a backup of the computer.

While Max gets to work straight away, the show kicks off with O'Keefe and Keane. After Keane reiterated that the video doesn't prove her son shied away from serving as a soldier, she also explains that it's impossible that so many people have reacted to the video online in such a short amount of time. She then states that the posts were mostly made by automated bots and O'Keefe knows about it. O'Keefe is speechless and doesn't know what to say. He then calls in a viewer who has also been to Iraq and has a deep grudge against Andrew Keane, believing he was given preferential treatment because of his mother. Convinced that it wasn't just a random caller, Keane left the show and that it was all orchestrated by O'Keefe.

Meanwhile, Carrie shows George Pallis the body. He demands to know how the man died, to which Carrie explains that Quinn saved her life because the man was about to attack her. Then she leads him into the garage to the van, which is clear evidence for the lawyer.

Keane and Saul are on their way home. Keane tells Saul that she is very grateful for his help. Saul returns the credit to her for doing well on the show, even as O'Keefe continues to antagonize her. When they arrive at the hotel, another protest awaits them. However, Keane consciously chooses not to use the back entrance of the hotel. One of the protesters makes it through the cordon and is hit by Keane's car, which she watches in shock.

Carrie tells Quinn that Pallis has given him immunity. However, he is less interested in his future and instead discovered smeared letters on a whiteboard in the office. From this he interprets that the people who left the house in the morning are on their way to New York. Carrie then wants to speak to the lawyer, but she is told that he is busy with Keane. Carrie then contacts Rob to find out what's going on, but he only tells her that Keane is fine and they've already called for backup. While Carrie is on the phone waiting for a reply from the busy Rob, two men open the garage door from the outside. The moment Carrie realizes she must stop her, the explosion erupts.

Meanwhile, Max found out that Quinn's fake profile can be found in discussions of conspiracy theories online, but was specifically used to create posts against Keane. In Queens, Carrie regains consciousness and first goes in search of Quinn, who comes out of the smoking building. They begin to tend to the injured and the dead.

Review[]

Homeland season 6 simply can’t compete with reality’s plot twists. The current season is the show’s most frustrating in years — but it’s largely not the show’s fault - By Emily St. James
